Join Our Team!

The Racial Justice Network is continuing to grow its staff team to support its radical grassroots work. We are currently recruiting for two roles:

Trainer/Facilitator  Campaign Coordinator (Race and Climate Justice)

We are also accepting applications for volunteers - the specific call out for this can be found here.

Who are we?

Founded in 2014 by people with lived experience of racial injustice, the Racial Justice Network (RJN) brings together organisations, groups and individuals across West Yorkshire, nationally and internationally to proactively promote racial justice.

Our vision is the end of racial injustice. Our mission is to address the legacies of colonialism through holistic, societal, environmental, spiritual and cultural repair and transformation.

Our values and positionality

Our work is rooted in transformative and reparative justice, abolition and anti-racism. We practise this through our values of learning, collaboration, centering those who are most marginalised and staying true to our vision and purpose.

What are our aims?

Our aims are to:

Organise, mobilise and take positive and effective action with racially minoritised communities towards ending racial injustice Listen and work with disempowered communities to challenge and hold people and systems of power accountable Build solidarity by raising awareness of racial inequality and injustice in the mainstream

What do we do?

Our key areas of work include, but are not limited to:

Activism, organising and mobilising: We support individuals and groups to embolden confidence and skills to tackle challenges and to run effective campaigns. We also support and encourage people to build solidarity and mobilise large communities of resistance to affect change. Our current work includes #StopTheScandal, a campaign to resist the use of mobile fingerprint scanners with links to immigration databases.

Research and reports: We research and produce reports on the issues affecting our communities to provide a knowledge base to influence change.

Informing and influencing: We use our platform to engage with institutions and decision-makers to influence public policies, bills and institutional practices. Our anchor is, and will always be, ‘speaking truth to power’ and standing with racialised and minoritised communities.

Training and workshops: We offer consultancy and deliver bespoke training for groups and institutions covering a wide range of topics related to migration, campaigning, and organising with a special focus on race, racism and radicalisation.

Roles

Trainer/Facilitator

The role of Trainer/Facilitator is crucial to developing the skills, supporting the learning and creating capacities needed in our fight for racial justice. This role will centre Black and Brown communities in spaces of learning, healing, solidarity, organising and mobilising.

For more information on the role and how to apply, please read the full job description here or using the button below.

Campaign Coordinator (Race and Climate Justice)

The role of the Campaign Coordinator is to organise and mobilise around the 13th Recommendation, advocating for an international, intergenerational and intersectional  approach to  the work of climate justice. As with all our work, this role seeks to centre and build power with Black and brown people who are most marginalised and impacted not just by race and climate injustice itself, but also mainstream climate justice movements.

For more information on the role and how to apply, please read the full job description here or by using the button below.

Calling Volunteers

We are currently also recruiting volunteers who are integral to building our collective power. For more information on how you can get involved, please read the call out here or by using the button below.

Application Process

We will be accepting applications in writing, audio and video formats.

You can submit an application in writing, audio or video. If your application is in writing, please ensure that it is no more than 2 pages of A4. For audio and video submissions, we ask that this is no more than 5 minutes in total.

Please note: Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Stage One: Application

We are interested to get to know you without the limitations of a CV. In your application, we will be looking for information about:

Your lived experience and how it relates to your approach to work, volunteering and life Your specific skills, knowledge and experiences, specifically in the areas listed under ‘key responsibilities’ and ‘who are we looking for’ Your understanding of grassroots movement-led change in relation to the specific role in achieving its vision of ending racial injustice.

Stage Two: Workshop Planning, Delivery and Reflective Interview

We will only request a CV with relevant experience if you are shortlisted for stage two.

If we feel your experience and approach aligns we will invite you to Stage two.

You will be asked to plan and deliver a training workshop for a group of up to 8 people. This is an opportunity for you to showcase your practice and process within a dynamic group environment.

Following the workshop, you will  join the members of the RJN for a reflective interview. This will be more conversational than a traditional interview.  It is your opportunity to learn about us, just as much as it is for us to get to know you. You will also have space to share your reflections on the workshop you delivered, how you felt it went, and/or your observations as a facilitator.

Information on the makeup of the panel and part of the interview questions will be sent in advance of the interview. As there will be questions that are responding to the workshop you deliver, these will not be shared in advance.

We recognise recruitment processes can often be time consuming and extractive. If you are shortlisted, we will share further information about how we address this.

Please email your applications to info@racialjusticenetwork.co.uk with the specific role in the subject line ‘RJN Recruitment: by the deadline: 18:00 Wednesday 16th October 2024
