Unlearning Racism: An Introduction (Webinar Series)
In response to the state murder of George Floyd in the US, and in solidarity with the subsequent uprisings by Black activists here and around the world, we invite people who identify as white to join us in the critical work of unlearning racism.
Facilitated by white trainers acting in accountability to the Racial Justice Network team, these immersive and participatory webinars will introduce participants to whiteness, understanding links between everyday and structural racism, and how to action this learning.
Webinar One: Will introduce concepts of White Supremacy, White Fragility and White Privilege to support participants to honestly and sensitively reflect on our relationship to these terms, as well as how to move through difficult emotions.
Webinar Two: In this webinar, participants will learn about how racism functions in the UK, and leave equipped with strategies to support people experiencing racism and ways to disrupt racism in the spaces we occupy. We will introduce the Cycle of Oppression and move participants towards understanding what accountable anti-racist action looks like in personal, cultural and institutional contexts.
The webinars are intended as a step towards attending the full 8-module Unlearning Racism Course, which will be run in an online format later this year.
The webinar is immersive and experiential, comprising a variety of pair-exercises in break-out rooms, journaling and will include some preparatory reading before each session. We encourage you to attend both webinars as they build on one another.
