Communities and Cultures of Resistance

May 1 @ 6:00 pm 8:00 pm

We are thrilled to welcome back Professor Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o. During this event, we will explore the stories, strategies, and resilience of communities resisting oppression and the significance of Peace Lotus Day. With the return of our esteemed guests following on from the International Symposium joined by Esther Xosei, Peninah Wangari-J, and Ndungi Githuku.

Why Peace Lotus Day?

Tuesday, April 30th, marks the 49th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, with the fall of Saigon, now Ho Chi Minh City. In Vietnam, it is a public holiday known as Reunification Day. Peace Lotus Day, with origins in anti-war resistance in South Vietnam during the war, honours not only the indigenous struggle against violence, imperialism and genocide but also the ecocide wrought by warfare.
